Davis Not Discouraged by Democratic Voter Turnout

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Wendy Davis says she's not disappointed turnout among her party's primary voters wasn't stronger - even amid a major organizing push.

Davis said Wednesday that her race and many other key ones on the Democratic slate for Tuesday's primary weren't competitive, giving some voters less-incentive to head to the polls.

She told reporters in Austin that more than 12,000 Texans have volunteered for her campaign so far and added: "We will literally have a small army of people across the state, or really a large army of people across the state."

Democratic turnout was about on par with the 2010 and 2012 primaries.

But that was the case despite the much-publicized political group Battleground Texas signing up 12,000-plus volunteers and launching major voter registration drives.
