Days Dwindle Down for Downtown Houston Macy's

The days dwindle down to a previous few for Macy's downtown Houston department store after being a Bayou City retail fixture since shortly after World War II.

Macy's spokeswoman Melissa Goff tells the Houston Chronicle that she expects the store to end its 66-year run Saturday.

Only two of the store's 10 floors remain open.

The $13 million store building opened at 1110 Main St. in 1947 as the flagship Foley's department store which stood for years as Houston's biggest department store.

Owner Federated Department Stores rebranded the Foley's store chain Macy's. The Cincinnati-based chain, now called Macy's Inc., announced in January that it would close the store when its lease expires this spring. The building's owners plan to demolish the building.
