President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney won't be making campaign appearances today.

They both are expected to spend hours preparing for Tuesday's presidential debate. Obama and his advisers are in Williamsburg, Va., while Romney and his team are at the Republican's Boston-area home.

Obama is looking to rebound from a widely panned performance at the first debate, while Romney is hoping to repeat his strong showing.

Ahead of the debate, Obama campaign aides are criticizing the Republican nominee for what they say is a willingness to shift positions to make them more palatable for voters. Spokeswoman Jennifer Psaki (SAH'-kee) says Romney "has been making pitches all of his life" and "knows how to say what people want to hear."

Romney adviser Ed Gillespie his candidate will be ready for a more aggressive Obama. Gillespie tells CNN's "State of the Union" that Obama can change his approach, but "he can't change his record."

Tuesday's debate will be a town hall-style session at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.
