MOSCOW After an intense US-Russia hockey match at the Winter Olympics on Saturday, many Russian fans have decided the cold war is back -- and not just on the ice. Demonstrators gathered in Moscow today to protest the call that disallowed a Russian goal, in a match that Russia ultimately lost in a shootout.

The goal would have given Russia a 3-2 lead with less than five minutes on the clock. It was disallowed after officials ruled that the net had come loose from the ice before the goal was scored.

The chief target of their anger is an American who was one of the referees at the game, Brad Meier.

The referee supervisor for the International Ice Hockey Federation is confirming that the ruling made by the referees was correct, and that a video review was properly used to make the call.

But that hasn't satisfied Russian spectators. They've come together from both ends of the political spectrum to air their grievances, and their conspiracy theories.

The headline in one popular newspaper said, "An American referee and the puppet international federation deprived us of a deserved victory."
