Updated: Mon 11:36 AM, Sep 10, 2012

Waller County authorities have identified the driver of a truck hit by a train near the Montgomery/Waller County line.

Edward Cannon from the Magnolia area was killed when a train hit his vehicle off of FM 1774 Sunday around 3:30 p.m.

Witnesses say they saw the 49-year-old drive onto the tracks and stop, and that Cannon didn't seem to make any attempt to get off the tracks.

The Waller County Sheriff's Office says Cannon was dead at the scene. His body has been sent to Houston for an autopsy.

Authorities do not yet know why Cannon was in the area. They add that it was a private railroad crossing where he was hit.
