HOUSTON (AP) - A convicted drunken driver has been suspended from serving his public punishment at the site of the Houston crash that killed a man.
After the fatal crash last summer, 39-year-old Michael Giacona spent 90 days in jail. And a judge ordered him to stand at the intersection on four Saturdays with a sign reading, "I killed Aaron Pennywell." He's the 20-year-old victim whose car was hit.
The Houston Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/JTd6de) that passers-by were hostile to Giacona last weekend, his first time at the site with the sign.
The judge Friday said he will re-evaluate the sentence and ordered Giacona to stop the public punishment for his safety.
On Saturday, Pennywell's relatives and friends gathered at the intersection. They held signs warning of the dangers of drinking and driving.
