The Rudder Key Club gathered at Firestone in Bryan Saturday for a fundraiser. Although the group is looking to fund their Dallas trip for the District Convention in the spring of 2014, club members are also raising funds for the Eliminate Project.
According to its website, The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. This deadly disease steals the lives of nearly 60,000 innocent babies and a significant number of women each year.
The solution revolves around proper vaccination for mothers and their future babies.
Although a serious cause, members of the Rudder Key Club tried to have fun at work Saturday. Holding signs with a smile, many couldn't help but stop for a quick wash, even with potential rain in the forecast.
"It took a lot to plan this," said Rudder Club member Lexi Gomez.
"We're very pleased the community is helping us out with this."
