A former Air Force trainer in Texas has been sentenced to three months in prison in a sex and assault scandal in which some recruits had to fill their canteens with toilet water.
Staff Sgt. Ryan Deraas reached a plea agreement Monday at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland.
Deraas, who faced up to 10 months in prison, pleaded guilty to two assault counts and eight specifications of misconduct. He'll also get a bad-conduct discharge.
Deraas says he had sex with one female trainee and pursued relationships with several others. Deraas refused bathroom breaks for some trainees and deprived them of drinking water - ordering them instead to use toilet water.
Eight other former Lackland instructors convicted in the scandal have been sentenced to prison or to no confinement but hard labor.
