A former Houston-area doctor has pleaded guilty in a more than $19 million health care scam linked to unneeded testing and physical therapy.
Federal prosecutors in Houston say 56-year-old Donald Gibson II of Richmond faces up to 10 years in prison when he's sentenced in July.
Gibson on Monday pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit health care fraud. A co-defendant, Sunday Joseph Edem, pleaded guilty in February and also awaits sentencing.
Investigators say Gibson from 2007 until early 2012 submitted more than $19.4 million in claims to Medicare and Texas Medicaid Programs. He received approximately $8.5 million for the reported work.
Authorities say Edem operated medical clinics under the names of other individuals in the scheme with Gibson and the pair split the proceeds.
