WATCHES AND WARNINGS

Family Moves Forward After Losing Everything in House Fire

Updated: Thu 6:37 PM, Sep 27, 2012

Days after a Brazos County home burned to the ground, a single mother of three is trying to pick up the pieces.

“Right now I don't even have a job, I'm trying to find a job somewhere,” said Tranika Montgomery.

Montgomery says she doesn’t have home insurance either.

Montgomery says she's staying positive because she knows things can be replaced. The problem is finding a way to replace everything.

“My kids bedroom sets, my bedroom set, the clothes, tooth brushes, spoons...everything you have in a house to live to make it a home...we no longer have that anymore,” said Montgomery.

That's why people across Brazos County are stepping up to help.

“I've never been through a fire but I've been through eviction so I know the struggle. I couldn't do anything but help,” said Raquel Masco, Executive Director of the Single Moms Created for Change Organization.

There was a steady flow of people dropping by to drop off donations Thursday afternoon.

“Just odds and ends, little tea sets, so the little one has something to play with instead of worrying about what she lost,” said Skip Dent, a generous Bryan resident. “They lost things instead of each other, and that’s the important thing.

Montgomery says she isn't worried because of all the love and support she's received from friends, family and strangers.

Anyone who would like to donate money to the family can go to any Wells Fargo Bank branch. There is a fund for the family listed under “Tranika Montgomery”.
