NORTH ZULCH – State Troopers and the Madison County Sheriff's Office are investigating a deadly crash that claimed the life of an 18-year-old girl.
The crash happened around 10:00 p.m. on Highway 21 and Shepherd Hill, near North Zulch.
Troopers tell us a Ford Taurus driven by Brookelyn Vogeler crossed the center line on Hwy 21 and was hit by an 18-wheeler. She was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene.
News 3 has learned Vogeler was the Valedictorian at North Zulch High School and just graduated Saturday.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured. Troopers say the truck driver swerved to try to avoid the other vehicle but the Taurus hit the truck's front drive axle.
The highway reopened about 12:30 a.m.
