Father, Son Suspected in Grimes Co. Septic System Scam

Investigators say a College Station man has been arrested in Grimes County for working with his father to scam an elderly couple out of thousands of dollars.

Audie Cooper II has been charged with exploitation of the elderly.

Grimes County investigators say they're working on arresting his father, Audie Cooper of Bryan.

Investigators with the Grimes County Sheriff's Office say a man has been arrested in connection with an alleged scam operation that exploited the elderly.

Investigator J. J. Jones with Grimes County says his office was contacted in February about a scheme that involved two men who went door-to-door offering "free" inspections of septic systems to elderly homeowners. Jones says the duo, a father and son team, then overcharged their victims to fix unnecessary problems. He says one of the men has been arrested and that another suspect has yet to be apprehended.

The son was arrested and bonded out at $10,000 while his father is still at large.

The victims include an 84 year old man and an 82-year-old wheelchair-bound woman who were charged more than $2200 for such repairs. Jones says the two men were charged with felony counts of Exploitation of the Elderly or Disabled.

Requests for information on the suspects had not been returned by time of publication, but should be released shortly. Investigators in Grimes County say similar scams have been reported to the Robertson County Sheriff's Office, and that those acts may have been committed by the same suspects.

Anyone who has ben a victim of this or a similar act of exploitation is asked to contact their local law enforcement.
