Fire Injures One, Destroys Home in College Station

One man was transported to the hospital and his home was destroyed as a result of a structure fire on the 800 block of Avenue B Saturday morning.

“When the first unit arrived on the scene, there were flames rolling out of the front of the structure almost all the way out to the street,” said Bart Humphreys, College Station Fire Department Public Information Officer.

One resident was home when the fire broke out, according to officials. The resident was asleep in the living room when he noticed smoke, then evacuated the structure. Emergency responders arrived on location shortly after 8 AM.

A preliminary investigation indicates the fire may have started in the kitchen. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“It’s really incumbent upon us to discover the cause of every fire we can because that’s how we can prevent fires. If we know how they start, then we can do something on the front end to prevent fires,” said Humphreys.

College Station and Bryan Fire Department responded to the structure fire.

EMS transported the resident to St. Joseph’s Hospital for smoke inhalation.
