College Station fire officials are investigating the cause of a fire that significantly damaged a home on Sterling Street near Texas Avenue.
The fire was reported around 2:45 p.m. Monday afternoon when a neighbor saw smoke billowing out of the roof of the house.
The family who lives there was not home at the time and there were no injuries.
Investigators say a crate full of puppies was on the back porch but firefighters were able to move it to safety.
The fire was put out in about 20 minutes.
Firefighters say the family will be displaced.
