In the days after the fatal fire at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Bryan, firefighters across the twin cities say they've received an overwhelming amount of support from the community.
“Words can't describe what we've received in terms of support. Folks inside and out, in both cities, are just taking care of business,” said Bryan Fire Chief Randy McGregor, during a news conference Sunday morning.
Firefighters say much of that support has come in the form of food.
Casa Rodriguez was one of the first restaurants to deliver food to Bryan firefighters Saturday. They also delivered breakfast tacos to Bryan Station One and Station Five Monday morning.
“I'm sure they're going through a lot right now with everything that happened. We can't even imagine what they're going through right now,” said Casa Rodriguez waitress Gricela Gonzalez
Needless to say, others have had the same idea.
All three refrigerators at Fire Station Five are filled with food that people have dropped off the past couple days. Firefighters say the same is true at fire stations across the twin cities.
The Bryan Fire Department is grieving the loss of two great men, and nothing can truly make that easier. But that hasn't stopped people from trying.
“We want to help them, because they're good people,” said Rodriguez.
