Fires Still Causing Problems Across Texas

Firefighters continued battling blazes across Texas, including a fire six miles southwest of Wichita Falls that prompted the evacuation of 500 homes and destroyed two houses.

The 200-acre fire, sparked Friday amid 43 mph winds, was 10
percent contained Saturday.

The Texas Forest Service continued working on 16 major fires
spanning 676,855 acres.

Six new fires were reported Friday.

A 9,600-acre fire near Junction prompted evacuations of a subdivision, but firefighters were successful in battling the fire
from the air.

It was 80 percent contained.

More than 400 firefighters and support staff continued working
the massive fire in Presidio and Jeff Davis counties that has
destroyed more than 40 homes.

It was 74 percent contained Saturday.

Burn bans were in effect in 211 of the state's 254 counties.
