It was a special day at the Allen Chapel Church in Bryan today.

Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie is the first female bishop in the 225-year history of the African Methodist Episcopal church.

She's touring all the A-M-E churches across the state to perform a "needs assessment" for updates in equipment and office supplies around the churches.

There are over 230 churches in the African Methodist Episcopal Church in through out Texas.
