Firefighters and first responders locally and from across the state joined together to remember a fallen brother.

"They will overcome, but they will never get back to normal," said Lieutenant Mike Ruesink of the College Station Fire Department.

Early Saturday morning, the body of Lt. Eric Wallace was sent to Austin for autopsy.

Fire trucks from Austin, College Station and Bryan escorted Lieutenant Wallace, and first responders offered a salute to their fallen comrade. His flag-draped casket arrived at Hillier Funeral Home around noon.

"We are all saddened," Lt. Ruesink said. "We all have a missing place in our hearts right now. The Bryan Fire Department is a strong fire department and they have some great employees... but we will all miss Eric."
