A Bryan man was airlifted to the hospital Sunday afternoon after he fell off a pier while fishing in in Lake Somerville.
The man fell when he was fishing near the pier in Lake Birch Creek State Park just before 1:30 Sunday. Authorities said it all happened when the man climbed over a railing to reel in a fish. He slipped, hit the rocks and the base of the pier, which caused him to lose consciousness. Two fisherman on the pier and other good Samaritans came to assist the man until emergency personnel arrived. Medics on scene told News 3 that the man sustained head injuries along with a broken left arm. He was taken to St. Joseph's hospital in Bryan by way of PHI.
