Flag Surviving Hurricane Rita Now in Display Case

BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) - A U.S. flag that survived Hurricane Rita
no longer flutters in the Texas wind but instead is on display in a
special tribute case.

Charlie Snoek of Beaumont says he found his flag tangled on its
pole after Rita blew through Texas and into Louisiana in September
2005.

The Beaumont Enterprise reported Tuesday, on Flag Day, that it
took Snoek four days to untangle his battered flag. The director of
a nutrition center says he used pencils and knitting needles to
undo the knots.

Snoek then pinned the remnants together and placed the
reconstituted flag in a display case. He now proudly displays his
reclaimed flag indoors.

Snoek says he learned a lesson about flags and storms, taking
down another U.S. banner before Hurricane Ike slammed Texas in
2008.
