A former Texas A&M and Carter High School football player is in custody in connection with a robbery Tuesday at a Duncanville 7-Eleven that left an employee injured, Duncanville police reported.

Darren Glen Lewis, 44, has been charged in Cedar Hill with theft, evading arrest or detention and aggravated robbery, police reported.
Duncanville police plan to charge him with aggravated robbery in the 7-Eleven robbery, Duncanville police spokesman Doug Sisk said.

The robbery occurred at about 2 a.m. at the 7-Eleven on Highway 67 and Cockrell Hill Road, police reported.

The suspect demanded money from an employee, who was shot in the thigh after refusing to hand over the money, police reported.

The employee was transported to Methodist Charlton Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Lewis is being held in the DeSoto City Jail, Sisk said.

As a running back at Texas A&M, he ran for 5,264 yards from 1987-90 and was an All-America selection in 1990. He was drafted into the NFL by the Chicago Bears and played for a little more than two seasons.
