Former Brazos Valley Educator Dies of Brain Cancer

James Vinson, a longtime educator in the Brazos Valley lost his battle with brain cancer Sunday.

Known by his friends and family as Jimmy, he is best remembered for his dedication to helping others and for making a difference in the lives of his students, co-workers and loved ones.

Vinson joined the staff at Madisonville High School in 1974 and went on to teach in the surrounding communities of Iola, Normangee and North Zulch.

In 2004 when he retired, he proudly held the position of Superintendent of Madisonville C.I.S.D.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday night at the Madisonville Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Madisonville.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting contributions be made the James Vinson Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Jimmy Vinson was 67-years-old.
