A former Texas Department of Public Safety trainee and Iraq War veteran has been sentenced to two years in prison for intoxicated assault with a deadly weapon.

David Wayne Hartley, 27, of Hempstead was convicted of causing a wreck two years ago in Brazos County that left two women injured.

At the time of the crash investigators say Hartley refused medical treatment and a field sobriety test, but he was taken to the College Station Medical Center where a mandatory blood sample was drawn.

Investigators say Hartley's blood alcohol content was nearly three times the legal limit.

When that crash happened, Hartley was 14 weeks into his field officer training and was stationed in Grimes County.

He is also the son of Hempstead's police chief, David Hartley.
