HOUSTON (AP) - A former Houston police officer accused of raping a woman handcuffed in the back of his patrol car has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The Houston Chronicle reports Adan Carranza pleaded guilty Tuesday to attempted sexual assault in exchange for the prison sentence.
His attorney, Steven Rocket Rosen, said the 33-year-old Carranza had "a major, major lapse in judgment."
Carranza was a Houston officer for three years before the attack in June 2012. He had responded to a traffic accident when he handcuffed one of the drivers and put her in his patrol car. The victim told investigators he waited for others to leave before he assaulted her. He then took her to jail for reckless driving.
