Normangee's former police chief has been sentenced for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.

Jody Navarro must serve two years probation, wear an ankle monitor for five months and pay a $1,000 fine.

Navarro pleaded guilty in January to running a background check on a license plate with a protected police computer as a favor for a methamphetamine trafficker.

Navarro had to give up his peace officer's license.
