MONTGOMERY COUNTY - A former Texas A&M student is dead following a boating accident over the weekend.

The incident happened just before 9 last night when a group of about 49 people, mostly from College Station, were on a double-decker "party barge".

Police say 25-year-old Ross Lehmberg of College Station tried to jump from the upper deck, but hit the lower deck and slid into the water.

Several people from the party tried to go in after him, but were not successful.

"It was an accident. There's a possibility alcohol was involved. We're still investigating that," said Lt. Tim Cade with the Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constable's Office.

Members of the Montgomery County Precinct 1 dive team recovered Lehmberg's body just after midnight.

Lehmberg was an alumnus of the FarmHouse Fraternity at Texas A&M University. Fraternity President Andrew Fowler released a statement that read:

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic accident and loss of our alumnus Ross Lehmberg yesterday evening. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this sudden loss. With a current investigation ongoing, we will not be making further comments at this time."
