Maintenance crews are trying to fix a natural gas leak in Grimes County which has several people evacuated from their homes, according to the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Don Sowell says around 8:30 this morning, investigators received a call about a possible gas leak on County Road 215 near Anderson.
According to Sheriff Sowell, there’s a leak in a 30-inch natural gas line that runs from Highway 105 to Highway 30.
Sheriff Sowell says part of County Road 215 has been shut down while crews with Atmos Energy try to fix the leak. A few residents who live around the area were asked by investigators to evacuate.
Sheriff Cowell says the gas is not dangerous but it does have a smell and could cause nausea.
The cause of the leak is undetermined.
