COLLEGE STATION - A wet Wednesday commute in College Station.
Police shut down University Drive, from Glenhaven to Highway 6, for over an hour because of a geyser of water. The geyser was the result of a water main break.
Shortly before 9:00 a.m., a cap on a water main, which runs from Texas Avenue to the Southbound Highway 6 feeder road, blew off the main. Despite being buried 6-feet underground, the 30-plus pound cap shot into the air and landed some 20-feet away.
A geyser of water then shot about 100-feet into the air until the water department was able to shut off the main just after 10:00 a.m.
All westbound lanes and two eastbound lanes of University Drive have reopened. The far right eastbound lane will remain closed until crews have repaired the broken water main.
The geyser was located next to Scott & White Clinic.
