Authorities say a North Texas girl has died on her 13th birthday after being accidentally shot by her 19-year-old brother as he cleaned a gun.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office says the shooting happened Tuesday night at a home near Joshua. The girl was transported to a Fort Worth hospital where she died.

The Tarrant County medical examiner on Wednesday identified the victim as Emilee Bates.

Sheriff Bob Alford says the girl's death has been classified as an accident and no charges are pending.

Alford says investigators determined the man was trying to clear his weapon when he ejected two dummy rounds but forgot a live round remained.

Joshua is 15 miles south of Fort Worth.
