It could be the beginning of a building boom in Bryan as Gunler Foods continues construction on a $15 million bottling plant that will initially mean 65 new jobs.

News 3 took a look at Bryan's Economic Development and why city officials say it's a sign of more to come.

It's a building blitz and signs of a growing economy in Bryan.

Construction started in September but Gunler Foods is already leaving a mark here in the Texas Triangle Park of north Bryan.

The Mexico-based company is opening their first manufacturing plant stateside.

In the coming years they expect to employ almost 250 people.

Dennis Goehring is the Executive Director of the Bryan Business Council and says Gunler's edible cooking oils, their bottling for it and paper products will be made here before being shipped south.

"The vendor of course is Walmart and that will all go to Walmart, which will then be shipped to Mexico and central Mexico and South America," Goehring explained.

Construction is on track to finish up by April and when that happens Gunler will be the first business to set up shop here at Texas Triangle Park.

"We anticipate a lot of production and a lot of employment," added Goehring.

The City of Bryan is also supporting a $1.7 million rail spur that will connect the park down to the Port of Houston.

Bryan Economic Development Director Kevin Russell believes geography will invite more industry.

"One of the reasons I think companies are looking at Bryan is because of where we're located between Houston, Austin, San Antonio and Dallas- Fort Worth. And it makes it easy for them to go any direction," said Russell.

"Texas is a vibrant place to come to," said Goehring.

Once online we're told the jobs at Gunler will average at least $30,000 and that's not the only new business.

Much lesser ones are going up as well.

A Chick's Restaurant and gas station as well as a new hotel are under construction at Highway 6 and Briarcrest and should open this summer.

Meanwhile a new Hilton Garden Inn is being built off University Drive in east Bryan too.

Woodbolt International in Downtown Bryan plans to relocate and expand to the Biocorridor and will soon break ground on a $9 million facility that will bring an additional 75 employees to their company.
