We now know more about the law enforcement background of the Hearne officer who's been placed on paid administrative leave following a shooting Saturday night.
Sergeant Stephen Yohner has been a peace officer for more than six years. He became a full-time Hearne policeman in July of last year.
From February of last year up until the time he was made full time he served in Hearne as a Reserve Officer.
He came to Hearne from Bremond where he started out as an officer but was promoted to the chief position within two months.
He also worked for the Navasota Police Department for more than two years.
Yohner began his career in the west Texas town of Brownfield.
According to the Department of Public Safety, Yohner was responding to a home burglary in the 200 block of Hall Street in Hearne when he came across the suspect, Benjamin Carroll Junior.
Troopers say Yohner shot Carroll in the knee. The shooting is currently under investigation by The Texas Rangers.
