Good to Know:
Heritage is closed for Labor Day, but will re-open on Tuesday, marking the beginning of their going out of business sale which will last a few weeks.
DOWNTOWN BRYAN - A business landmark in Downtown Bryan is preparing to close its doors.
For four decades, Heritage Menswear has helped its customers look good and feel good from its Downtown Bryan spot.
Owner Bob Dodson has overseen the self-proclaimed "value place" from its infancy.
"Bringing home a good value, coupled with that same customer service is really what kept us here," Dodson said.
"We placed our values in going to market and bringing home the best buys we could give."
"The most rewarding thing would be seeing my customers come in the door."
People he fondly remembers.
"I can't thank them enough."
Including the famous ones.
"One of the blazers we did was for George Bush."
He's gotten to know his customers well.
"Over time you get an idea of what they're looking for."
"That's exactly what I'll miss is these customers that we've known over the years, their wants and likes and dislikes and taking care of them."
But, all good things must eventually come to an end.
After all this time, retirement has come. While Dodson and his wife, Chris, won't be doing business anymore, they will continue to have fun.
"We'll be playing golf a little more regular."
He's enjoyed being downtown through all its incarnations.
"One of the biggest things is the recent improvements in the Downtown Area."
"It's definitely come a long way. In fact, I'd say it's at its peak now versus anything I saw for the forty years I was down here."
And with Downtown a bit snazzier, Dodson's 40 years of work making others look good is just about done.
