Natural Gas Service Restored to Most Customers in Franklin After Leak

FRANKLIN- UPDATE: Thursday, 9:15p.m.
Atmos Energy says natural gas service has been restored for most customers in Franklin after a gas pipe was cut Wednesday by a sub-contractor of another company.

Atmos says a 4-inch line going into Franklin was cut near the Franklin Supermarket.

That gas line was repaired Wednesday night.

Atmos service representatives started going door to door helping customers re-light pilot lights.

That was completed Thursday, except for customers who weren't home.

They'll have a tag on their door on how to contact Atmos.

UPDATE: Thursday, 9:35 a.m.

According to Atmos, the process of re-lighting started at 2:30 a.m. Thursday, and officials hope to have things back up and running for all customers by Thursday afternoon.

Highway 79 in Franklin is back open after a natural gas pipe was cut by a sub-contractor.

But it could take a few days for gas service to return to customers.

Atmos says a four-inch line going into Franklin was cut near the Franklin Supermarket on Wednesday by a subcontractor of another company working on the line, Circle L Construction.

That gas line is being repaired.

Atmos service representatives will have to go turn off gas meters in Franklin, and when repairs are made, turn those gas meters back on.

After that, they'll go door-to-door to help customers re-light pilot lights.

Atmos hopes to have gas service restored by Friday.

Gas is expected to be flowing once again to the Robertson County town soon.

Atmos says a 4-inch line going into Franklin was cut near the Franklin Supermarket.
