HOUSTON (AP) Police say a 32-year-old man has been arrested after he confessed to planting a knife alongside a woman he had shot and killed.
The Harris County Sheriff's Department says in a news release Charles Ivey was arrested Saturday. Ivey remains in the Harris County Jail in connection with the killing of 41-year-old Donna Schumaker.
Police say the shooting happened at about 1 a.m. Saturday. They say Schumaker was at Ivey's home with a friend. Police say Schumaker and Ivey argued, and he killed her with a shotgun.
Initially, he told police Schumaker had tried to stab him and he defended himself. Later, after police talked to witnesses and questioned Ivey at the station, they say he confessed to placing the knife near Schumaker to make it look like self-defense.
