HOUSTON Visitors to the Houston Zoo will get a new view thanks to a wearable computer gadget.
Google Glass involves an eyeglasses-mounted device capable of shooting photos, filming video and surfing the Internet. It has a built-in camera and voice-command capability.
The Houston Chronicle reported Monday that the zoo entered a Google-sponsored contest to land one of the optical head-mounted displays to be used by staff. The wearable computer is not yet in wide release.
Zoo spokesman Ryan Draper says winners were selected based on creative ideas for putting the $1,500 head-mounted technology to use. Draper says it's going to be a new way to experience the zoo.
Houston Zoo officials have already used the technology to videotape staff caring for a giraffe.
