According to reports, the death of 23-month-old Jace Paul Valdez is being ruled as an accident caused by the mauling. The toddler was inside his grandparents' home when he was mauled to death by the family dog Saturday night.

His 45-year-old grandmother was the only adult present at the time. Her name has not been released, but she was hospitalized for emotional trauma. Meanwhile, his mother is said to have been visiting friends in Spring when the attack occurred around 8 p.m. Saturday night; his father was reportedly working out of state.

The case remains under investigation to determine whether criminal charges will be filed. News 3 will have more information as soon as it becomes available.

I was attacked in the face by a Collie at the age of 5. I was just sitting in a chair and she was licking my hand. She suddenly went for my face. It turned out that the dog had a tumor that had something to do with her eyesight which they found after she was put to sleep. Sometimes you just never know why. It can be any breed, any dog, any time.

By all means I am NOT A DOG LOVER, however; your responses about a PIT BULL just get me. My daughter was attacked/mauled by a Black Lab (which are suppose to be lady friendly) when she was 13 years old!!! I spent an entire summer taking her back and forth to the Dr. to be treated. You need to remember that Pit Bulls are not the only dangerous dogs...in all reality ALL ANIMALS are!!! That is something that you can never predict on what they are going to do next.

Pitbulls have been bred for thousands of years to live on a chain and kill things. Cold Hard fact!!! As long as people continue to make pets out of things that were not ment to be pets, this will continue.Rotweillers and Dobermans were bred to be guard dogs, not pets. Hounds were bred to hunt, not for pets. How about pet owners with exotic pets such as large snakes, venomous reptiles and insects. Wake up people and get a good old fashioned lap dog.
