HAGERSTOWN, Md. - A disabled Marine athlete is making a gift to a Hagerstown boy who admired Sgt. Jeff Chaffin's racing machine.

It's a hand-powered cycle like the one Chaffin showed to 8-year-old Ethan Yamashita when they chanced to meet in a Philadelphia airport more than four months ago. He will deliver the cycle on Saturday.

Ethan has a brittle bone disease that requires him to use a wheelchair.

Chaffin also uses a wheelchair. He says the sport of hand-cycle racing saved his life by making him realize he could still be active.

Chaffin raised funds for the gift partly by riding 200 miles in 24 hours last summer.

He races for Team Semper Fi, a project of the California-based Semper Fi Fund. The fund benefits injured and critically ill service members.
