The trial of a convicted killer already serving life in prison, now accused in the death of a corrections officer, began Monday.
45-year-old John Ray Falk Jr. could wind up with a death sentence for an escape attempt five years ago that left 59-year-old officer Susan Canfield dead.
The trial was moved to Bryan on a change of venue from Huntsville.
Canfield was killed in September of 2007 when investigators say Falk and fellow prisoner Jerry Martin broke away from an inmate work crew outside the Wynne Unit.
They say Martin commandeered a truck and rammed it into Canfield, who was on horseback. She died from her injuries.
Martin was convicted of murder. He's now on death row.
