KBTX Earns 18 Honors from Texas Associated Press Broadcasters

DALLAS - KBTX News 3 has once again been honored as one of the top television stations in Texas.

Monday, the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters announced the winners for its annual contest covering 2013. KBTX earned 18 honors, including six first place awards. News 3 is also a nominee in the Best Newscast category. Winners will be announced at an April 12 ceremony in Austin.

Out of four divisions, KBTX competes in Division 3, which includes the biggest television markets outside of Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin.

News 3 was awarded with the Overall Station Excellence award at last year's TAPB event. Only one station in the state picks up the honor.

The awards are judged by journalists from outside Texas.

Meredith Stancik and John Gilbert won first place in the News Anchor category. Karla Castillo finished second.

The News 3 Sports Team earned first place in the Best Sportscast category for a September edition of Big Game Friday Night.

A September edition of First News at Four picked up a first place for Daytime Newscast. This was the first year for that category.

Reporter David Norris picked up first and second place in the Feature (Light) category. The first place was for his story on Huntsville High School's choice for homecoming queen.

Anchor Steve Fullhart won a first place in the Online/Special Content category for his series on an Aggie who served as a Secret Service agent for John F. Kennedy.
