COLLEGE STATION— Chancellor John Sharp today announced that the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) has approved a recommendation to their board for approval of the $450 million Kyle Field Stadium redevelopment project.
“We appreciate the consideration and support of this groundbreaking project by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board,” said Sharp. “Their formal approval paves the way for the most ambitious redevelopment ever envisioned.”
This project meets the board’s standards for overall space usage, efficiency, need and new construction cost, and deferred maintenance. In addition, this will bring the stadium into compliance with current fire codes and meet the requirements of the Americans with Disability Act. Stadium goers will experience greater sightlines, wider concourses, enhanced restrooms, chairback seating, a new exterior plan and mall entrance.
Approval by THECB comes on the heels of a vote earlier this week by the Brazos County Commissioners Court to support an agreement between Texas A&M University and the Bryan-College Station Convention and Visitors Bureau to provide preferred access and rates to facilities at Texas A&M to promote tourism in the region. Additional support came earlier this year from Brazos County, which agreed to provide a portion of the hotel occupancy tax revenue to the project.
