BRAZOS COUNTY - Beginning Tuesday, May 6, at 12AM (midnight), the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) contractor will begin to pour the bridge deck for the north section of the newly widened Rock Prairie Bridge. Work will start on the east side and alternate lane closures will be used for northbound SH 6. The SH 6 northbound entrance ramp south of Rock Prairie Road will also be closed. As the work progresses to the middle of the bridge, a freeway closure will be used for southbound SH 6. All southbound SH 6 traffic will be diverted to the frontage road via the Rock Prairie exit ramp. Subsequently, the SH 6 entrance ramp near the Texas Avenue/Deacon intersection will also be closed due to the freeway closure.
These closures are necessary for the safety of the traveling public while the deck pour is conducted. Both northbound and southbound SH 6 lanes will re-open prior to 6:30AM upon completion of the work.
TxDOT urges motorists who travel this area to watch for workers and construction equipment in the area and to expect some delays.
This $4.2 million dollar construction project is contracted to Lone Star Road Construction, LTD and is scheduled to be completed by Summer 2015. TxDOT and their contractor appreciate everyone’s patience during this construction.
