Law Enforcement Officials from across the Brazos Valley Salute a Fallen Deputy

BURLESON COUNTY- Dozens of law enforcement officials from across the Brazos Valley solemnly guided a fallen deputy Thursday morning so that others can pay tribute to the fallen hero.

Carl Lancaster said he's known Burleson County Sergeant Investigator Adam Sowders for nearly five years.

"He's always very helpful and a good guy," Lancaster said.

The Somerville resident is humbled at how so many are paying tribute to one of their own.

"I am a firm believer in the law and you have got to honor those people that put their lives out there to protect you," said Lancaster. "That's the bottom line."

Sowders had just celebrated his seventh anniversary at the Burleson County Sheriff's Office when he was killed in the line of duty. Henry Magee, 28, was arrested last week; he's accused of opening fire on deputies as they were executing a search warrant. One Somerville native saw Magee on a regular basis and is still in shock.

"You never would think that he would actually shoot somebody, but then I didn't know him that well other than as a customer," said Margaret Sollock. She has also known Sowders for for more than two decades.

"He was well loved," Sollock said.

When she heard the sirens, she was stopped in her tracks to pay her respects.

"It just sends chill bumps up you when you get to watch something like this and I'm glad that all the officers came together and made a good remembrance of him," she said.

Even though the fallen deputy is gone his efforts to help his community will never be forgotten.

"I hope he is up there looking down at how many people that really greatly appreciated and loved him," Sollock said.
