A long-standing lawsuit by the former College Station police chief against the city and officials has been settled.

Terms of the agreement between Michael Clancey and the defendants were not disclosed.

The chief resigned in October 2007 after nearly three years on the job.

In 2009, Clancey sued the city, former City Manager Glenn Brown and Assistant City Manager Kathy Merrill claiming his rights had been violated. He had received a poor job performance review the summer before he left the job.

Clancey claimed he was forced to resign, that city staff did not listen to his concerns, and that he was retaliated against when he raised issues.

In the suit, the chief said city officials initially were going to justify the city's red light camera program as a revenue generator. Clancey claimed he told city officials to frame it as a public safety issue. He also says he told city leaders that the department was understaffed.

On October 26, 2007, Clancey says his superiors came to him and told him he was going to be fired if he didn't resign his post. He says he was given no notice or reason for the termination threat.

Because of its policy concerning pending litigation, city officials did not comment on the suit.
