Life in Prison for Convicted Bryan Murderer

A Bryan man will spend the rest of his life in prison for his involvement in a 2011 murder.

Clifton Montgomery Jr. was found guilty Tuesday of capital murder after a Brazos County jury deliberated for seven hours.

Because prosecutors didn't seek the death penalty, the 27-year-old automatically received a life sentence. There is no possibility of parole.

Authorities allege Montgomery and Eugene Jenkins shot and killed 18-year-old Raymond Cavazos in his apartment on Sprucewood in Bryan in December 2011 in an attempt to take drugs from the known drug dealer.

Jenkins' case is pending.

Montgomery's arrest in 2011 was his 17th in Brazos County since 2005. Among them were drug and robbery charges.
