Bryan Local law enforcement agencies across the Brazos Valley gathered Friday in Bryan for specialized training in child abductions.
While many of their tactics remain confidential, law enforcement agencies are focusing on a specific case study, involving the abduction and murder of a 12 year old girl near Houston in Friendswood, Texas back in 1997.
Laura Smither went out for a jog and never came back. While her remains were found, no arrests have ever been made. Her mother Gay was present for Friday's training.
"We would like for something to come out and looking at the case with fresh eyes, people who are not familiar with the case, you never know that maybe somebody will come up with the idea that creates more leads," said Smither.
Bob and Gay Smither founded The Laura Recovery Center in April of 1998. The foundation has helped recover several abducted children.
