Madden Cover Contest Features Athletes with Local Ties

Updated: Fri 9:31 AM, Mar 15, 2013

Could an Aggie be on the cover of one of the most popular video game franchises of all time? How about a Hearne icon? You can help decide.

Online voting is underway to decide the football player who will be on the cover of Madden NFL 25, which is scheduled to be released August 27. The 25th edition of the game could have either a classic player from the past or a current star.

Voting is taking place on ESPN's SportsNation website.

A pair of Aggies are among the 32 current players vying for votes. Von Miller is now a standout linebacker for the Denver Broncos, and Ryan Tannehill just finished his first season with the Miami Dolphins as their quarterback.

In a March Madness-style bracket of 64 players determined by Madden and ESPN, Miller is a six seed. Tannehill is a 16 seed, the lowest you can get.

On the "Old School" side of the bracket, Mumford-born John Randle, who starred at Hearne High School, is an eight seed. The defensive tackle starred for the Minnesota Vikings for most of his career, which ran from 1990 until 2003. He is a Pro Football Hall of Famer.

First round voting continues through March 20. Eventually, one "Old School" and one "New School" athlete will go head-to-head to decide who graces the cover of the next Madden series.

An Aggie recently came up short on landing on the front of EA Sports' NCAA game offering. Ryan Swope was the runner-up to Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson. The results were announced earlier this week.
