Brazos Valley Burn Bans: The following counties are under a Burn Ban: Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Houston, Lee, Leon, Madison, Milam, Robertson, San Jacinto, Trinity, Walker, Washington
MADISONVILLE Madisonville Police are also searching for a 19-year-old who they say sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl at the Madisonville City Park.
Parents of the teen victim called in to report a run-a-way on October 14th after their 14-year-old daughter never returned home from a family friend’s house. The next morning the girl was located at the city park at the 1200 block of East Collard near Lake Madison. She told police she met the suspect through mutual friends on Facebook and both agreed to meet at the park where the two had sex.
“The social media has opened avenues to these children, ways they would have never known before. Ten years ago all you had was a telephone and that was usually pretty monitored; now they can sneak around your back because they have these smart phones and have quick access to social media sites,” explained Craft. “To me, they have no idea what they’re getting into. A cell phone with a teen is like leaving them with a loaded gun. Parents need to be more vigilant, and they’re not monitoring what their kids are doing on the cell phones. It’s just a recipe for heartbreak and things they don’t want to happen which could result in a parent’s worst nightmare.
Police are continuing their investigation to locate the suspect. Sexual Assault Charges are expected to be filed.
"The way the penal code works is any child under the age of 17 does not have the right to legally consent to sexual relations with an older adult; anyone that is three years older than they are,” explained Madisonville Police Criminal Investigator.
