A College Station man is dead after a strange crash Friday afternoon.

Investigators say his car went airborne over the railroad tracks and crashed at Southwest Parkway and Wellborn Road.

45-year old Eric Lee Weir died at the scene.

News 3 spoke with one woman who saw it all happen.

A startling site for drivers in College Station as a speeding car went out of control through an intersection, flying over a railroad track berm where it landed in the woods behind Wellborn Road and Southwest Parkway.

45-Year-old Eric Lee Weir of College Station died in the crash.

Kassi Montgomery of College Station was traveling down Wellborn Road and couldn't believe it when she saw the car go by at what she estimates was 100 miles an hour.

"You couldn't even tell that a car went through there, it had just gone over that section of trees," she said.

She stopped to help but couldn't find the car because it was buried so far behind the road.

"I immediately pulled over and started dialing 911 before I had even gotten out of my vehicle," Montgomery said.

Nick West and his friends stopped to look when they saw smoke.

"We were just coming by going to the house you know. We drove by we could see the smoke coming up so we tried to get as close as we can. You can see the car back in there in the trees were laid over. We were trying to figure out where he hit from, it looked like it hit pretty fast," said West, of San Antonio.

According to his Facebook page, Weir was a 1986 graduate of Caldwell High School and got out of the Army in 1993.

Kassi Montgomery says it's a miracle she and others weren't killed when the car barreled through a red light.

"At that time of day you know it's a pretty well traveled area," Montgomery added.

Police are trying to figure out why he lost control.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Investigators will reconstruct the accident scene starting at 6 A.M. Saturday.
