Man Accused of Stealing ‘Bait’ Bike From Texas A&M Campus

COLLEGE STATION - Texas A&M Police say a Bryan man took their bait; hook, line and sinker.

John Bell is accused of stealing a mountain bike from campus, a bike that is designed to catch thieves in the act.

Around 5:00 p.m. Friday, dispatch notified an officer that the ‘bait’ bike, a bicycle which is set out as bait for thieves, was headed north on Houston Street, towards the Dixie Chicken. A few minutes later, the officer spotted the bike on Wellborn Road, just north of Old College Road.

The officer stopped Bell. Police say Bell admitted he took the bike from the Life Sciences Building and was riding it to his apartment, which was less than a block away from where he was stopped.
