Man Arrested on Strangulation Charges after Police Pursuit

Paul Anthony Mitchell arrested Thursday night:

  • Officers responded to an aggravated assault call in the 1100 block of Carolina Street
  • Mitchell left the scene in a car
  • Officers chased him to the 1800 block of Welsh Avenue
  • Also charged with Evading Arrest, Driving with an Invalid License and Non-payment of Child Support out of Madison County.

COLLEGE STATION A College Station man is in jail after leading police on a short chase with his six children in the car.

38-year-old Paul Anthony Mitchell is facing multiple charges after College Station Police officers were called to his home in the 1100 block of Carolina Street Thusday night. Just after 8 o'clock, police were called after a neighbor reported seeing Mitchell and his girlfriend fighting. The neighbor told police that she saw Mitchell grab the woman with his hands, then punch her in the head with a closed fist forcing her to hit a wall.

Mitchell left the house while other police were arriving. They chased him through the area for about 25 mintues. Authorities attempted to stop him near Detroit Street and Nevada Street but Mitchell continued southbound onto Welsh Avenue. An officer was able to call Mitchell's cell phone and get him to stop the car and turn himself over to authorities in the 1800 block of Welsh Avenue, near A&M Consolidated High School. Inside Mitchell's SUV they found six children. He told cops that he didn't stop because he was scared.

Mitchell was arrested. He's being charged with Aggravated Assault/Family Violence, Evading Detention and Non-payment on Child Support out of Madison County.
